Looking Back on a Successful First Edition of Solar Meets

Published July 16, 2026

The first edition of Solar Meets brought together the Dutch solar community for a day filled with inspiration, collaboration, and meaningful conversations. Hosted at Lightyear, the event welcomed a full house of researchers, entrepreneurs, industry leaders, policymakers, students, and innovation partners—all united by a shared ambition: strengthening the future of solar energy in the Netherlands and Europe.

Throughout the day, attendees explored the opportunities and challenges facing the solar sector through a diverse programme of keynote presentations, interactive breakout sessions, and networking moments. Keynote speakers Ruud Cino, Johan Feenstra, and Ron Stoop shared their perspectives on innovation, industrialisation, and the role of collaboration in accelerating the energy transition. Their insights set the tone for engaging discussions throughout the day.

Participants also had the opportunity to take an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the Lightyear facilities, offering a unique look at cutting-edge innovation taking place within the Dutch solar ecosystem.

One of the strongest messages to emerge from Solar Meets was that the future of solar innovation depends on collaboration. Bringing breakthrough technologies from research to large-scale implementation requires more than technical excellence—it requires long-term commitment, strong partnerships, and a shared vision. Throughout the event, it became clear that by connecting expertise across research, industry, government, and education, we can accelerate the development and deployment of next-generation solar technologies while strengthening Europe's position in the global energy transition.

Beyond the programme itself, Solar Meets provided valuable opportunities to connect with peers, exchange ideas, and lay the foundation for new collaborations. The energy in the room reflected the strength of the Dutch solar ecosystem: a community driven by talent, ambition, and a willingness to work together to create lasting impact.

SolarNL would like to thank Lightyear for generously hosting the event, our keynote speakers Ruud Cino, Johan Feenstra, and Ron Stoop for sharing their expertise, our moderator Yvonne Smit for guiding the programme, and everyone who attended and contributed to making this inaugural edition such a success.

The enthusiasm and engagement throughout the day confirmed the importance of creating opportunities for the Dutch solar community to come together. We look forward to building on this momentum and welcoming everyone back for the next edition of Solar Meets.
